Police Sergeant Thomas Monks enlisted in the Dublin Military Police in April 1881, and was initially posted to 'F' District, transferring to 'B' District in December 1893, before returning to 'F' District, with the rank of Sergeant, in February 1894. In November 1901 he was commended for his 'Humane conduct and timely assistance rendered during the recent storm of the 12th November 1901 when, in company with Constable Smyth, he rescued by means of ropes, in the face of a fierce gale and heavy downpour, the crew of the Schooner Oclubus which was wrecked in Kingstown Harbour, and sank immediately after the landing of the last man.' Discharged to Pension in July 1913, he died in October 1949.
