Brazil. Pedro II (1683-1706). 500 Reis (1688). 21.35 gms. Act of June 14, 1688 circular overstrike of both the obverse and reverse legends of a Type IV (1663) crowned 500 Reis c/m of Afonso VI on an undated Evora mint 400 Reis of João IV. The host coin is a variety with all the "E"s in the angles of the cross facing right. LDMB-097, Cf.Gomes 114 for type and KM 36 (for c/m type). Very rare. Rich, deep charcoal-gray. Host Very Fine, c/m and overstrike Extremely Fine. A similar coin, with the "E"s facing left and right, graded EF-40, in a Stack's August 14, 2013 sale brought $3,750.
