Russia. Alexander III (1881-1894). Unveiling of the Monument to Alexander II in Helsingfors, Finland, 1894. Bronze. 69 mm. By A. Griliches, Jr. Bare head right, Latin legends, rev. View of the monument (which stands before the Helsinki Cathedral). Diakov 1096.1. Designed by the Finnish sculptor Walter Runeberg, the monument honors Alexander II for reestablishing the Diet of Finland in 1863 and for his reforms which gave Finland greater autonomy in the Russian Empire. In old, fitted box. Lustrous, attractive toffee-brown. Choice Uncirculated.
