VICT-O-R-IA AVG, Victory standing left holding wreath and palm frond. RIC 17, Mairat 238. In the chaos that ensued after the murders of Romano-Gallic emperors Laelianus and Postumus, Marcus Aurelius Marius, a simple blacksmith of great physical strength, was elevated to power by his comrades during the sack of Moguntiacum (Mainz). He ruled for perhaps several months before he was slain in a private quarrel. Toned. About Very Fine.
