Schoenberg, Arnold (1874-1951). Austrian composer and painter associated with the expressionist movement in German poetry and art, leader of the Second Viennese School, great innovator in music without tonal centers, developed the twelve-tone technique; his approach to both harmony and development greatly influenced 20th Century musical thought; as a painter, meanwhile, he displayed considerable ability and his works have been displayed with fellow Blue Rider group artists Franz Marc and Wassily Kandinsky. Autograph Signature "Arnold Schoenberg" in blue ink on a single sheet program for the University of Chicago's Tribute to Schoenberg, May 20, 1946. Very Fine and Rare.
