Prince of Wales Island is in the Alexander Archipelago in the Alaska Panhandle, and is the fourth-largest island in the United States. Mining of gold, copper, and other metals on the island began in the late 19th century. Gold production came from underground lode mines exploiting gold-bearing quartz veins. Alaskan mining shares that pre-date the Yukon gold rush are extremely rare. A great opportunity for the advanced collector of Alaskan scripophily.
