Overland Telegraph Company, (WV), certificate for $10 shares, Philadelphia [1899], #282, ornate border, scrollwork and central vignette depicting allegorical figure with telegraph machine and children, orange and black, printed by American Banknote Company, EF.

In 1860 the Pacific Telegraph Act lead to the formation of the Overland Telegraph Company, in order to construct telegraph lines linking the East and West coasts of the U.S. Construction was completed and the final connection made in Salt Lake City in 1861. The Overland Telegraph Company was eventually absorbed by Western Union.
