Baxter Overland Telephone & Telegraph Co. of Central New York, $25 shares, Utica 18[84], #104, ornate border, eagle in centre, black, VF.

Formed in May 1884, with the capability to serve 800 customers with telephone exchange services. The company was a great success in its formative year and had 300 customers by the October. Unfortunately throughout the 1880's, Alexander Graham Bell was attempting to maintain a monopoly over the telephony industry using patent-infringement claims, and sadly this company fell foul of this.
