Ford, Gerald R. ("Jerry"). Thirty-eighth President of the United States (1974-1977), Vice-President during the end of the Nixon era - first person appointed to the Vice Presidency under the terms of the 25th Amendment when Spiro Agnew resigned; first and only person to serve as Vice President and President of the U.S. without being elected by the Electoral College; House Minority Leader (1965-1973), Representative Michigan 5th District. Autograph Letter Signed "Jerry Ford" as Vice President. One page, Vice President letterhead, Washington, D.C., May 16, 1974. Writing to the Reverend Joseph W. Baker, Ford congratulates the Parish of Saint Eugene's Church in Yonkers on its 25th anniversary and praises the dedication of the church leaders and parishioners. Ford would become President less than three months after writing this letter when Richard Milhous Nixon resigned on August 9, 1974 in the wake of the Watergate scandal. Very light fold, Very Fine. Accompanied by respective Vice President envelope addressed to the Reverend with free frank signature "Gerald R. Ford" upper right. Also by American Bicentennial cachet envelope with Grand Rapids, Michigan cancel July 4, 1976, signed "Gerald R. Ford". [3]
