Frederick Douglas was born a slave in 1818. He rose from slavery to become a social reformer, orator, writer and statesman, and a leader in the abolitionist movement. He was appointed Recorder of Deeds for the District of Washington in 1881. Boldly signed beneath five lines attesting to the recording of the deed and its examination. Certificate of authenticity included.
