Berwick, Duke of [James Fitzjames] (1670-1734). English soldier, illegitimate son of James, Duke of York (later King James II); Marshal of France (1706); captured Madrid and defeated English at Almansa (1707); established Philip V on Spanish throne; killed at siege of Philippsburg in War of Polish Succession. Autograph Manuscript Letter Signed "Berwick". In French, 2 pages, small 4to, Fitzramerle, August 11, 1732. To the Count de Moniemar, Berwick acknowledges his correspondent´s letter, informing him of his disembarkation and subsequent victory over the enemy. He wishes him success in his future campaigns. Fine and an uncommon autograph.
