Wells, Fargo & Co´s Express Receipt for a gold bar received from Hardy & Kennedy at Forest Hill (near Auburn) valued at $2650 (which would have weighed about 125 troy ounces), for delivery to San Francisco, July 19, 1858, black on blue paper; with Kellogg & Humbert´s Assay Office memorandum, SF, July 1, 1858, for an 88.6 oz (before melting) deposit, also from Hardy & Kennedy, which they value at $1545.84, both with toning along folds and edges, memo with edge wear, both about VF+. Original Gold Rush-period assay receipts are rare; Kellogg and Humbert are well known to numismatists for their privately minted coins. [2]
