Olive Branch Gold Mining Co, 1000 $1 shs, 1901, signed by Henry M Blackmer as president, a beautiful certificate with olive branch and text in olive, "Gold" in name, location overprint, and ornate seal in metallic gold, fold, good VF+. Lawyer, banker, and gold baron Henry Blackmer lived a charmed life at the turn of the century, spending huge sums and making even bigger ones. But his luck ran out when investigation into the Teapot Dome Scandal during the Harding administration uncovered shady oil deals on which Blackmer had paid no taxes. Under the threat of indictment for tax evasion, he fled the country and lived in France for a quarter century. He finally returned in 1949 to pay over $6 million in back taxes and keep himself out of prison.
