German Patent (NY), Certificate for $7 that "Valentine Miller has paid into the Hands of the Subscribers, who were appointed a Committee by the Claimants of the German Patent, in the County of Herkemer," January 31 1795, #11, printed top and bottom borders, by "Barber & Southwick," toned, lower corners worn, good VF. This county, now spelled "Herkimer," was named after Revolutionary War hero Nicholas Herkimer (originally Herchheimer), one of the region´s predominantly German settlers.
