Arkansas & Texas Land Company (NY), Certificate for One Sitio of Land (4428-420/1000 acres), 1831, #227, viz., "part of one-half of two grants of land, situate in Texas...Beginning at...the south-west corner of the grant prayed for by Colonel Reuben Ross, from thence to the west, following the parallel of the thirty-second degree of latitude, as far as the eastern boundary of New-Mexico; from thence to the north following the division line between the states of Coahuila and Texas and New-Mexico, till it intersects the right bank of the River Arkansas; from thence extending down the river, till it strikes a point which is intersected by the one hundred and second line of longitude...from thence south, following said line...to the place of beginning..." issued to John Enrico, signed by TL Ogden, Daniel Jackson, and Edward Curtiss as trustees, black, a few spots of foxing at top, file cuts at bottom, soiled left edge, but sharp and VF+. In 1831, tensions were rising between Texian settlers from the United States and the Mexican government. Further immigration had been outlawed in 1830, Mexico began to enforce its ban on slavery, and there was widespread resistance to Mexican custom duties. They would boil over in 1835 with the Texas War of Independence.
