Edison Phonograph Works (NJ), 108 333/1000 $100 shs, 1888, #18, issued to and signed as president and again on verso by Thomas A Edison, small eagle at bottom, brown, pen canceled through signature on front (signature on back unaffected), stub reattached, edge wear and toning, good VF. While Thomas Edison was not considered a profound scientific genius, he had a tremendous talent for applying scientific principles to practical applications. In 1876, while experimenting with a needle attached to a telephone receiver, Edison discovered a method that reproduced sounds on a wax cylinder and the recording industry was born.
