Nautical: Sailing Instructions Interesting string-bound Manuscript, unsigned, late 18th or early 19th century, 34 pages, folio, providing solutions to navigation problems according to various methods, including "Plane Sailing," "Traverse Sailing," "Mercator´s Sailing," "Middle Latitude Sailing," etc. Undoubtedly either an instructor´s or student´s pages for a course on navigation, with calligraphic headings on each page and diagrams created with a compass for each solution. Three leaves detached, one page with 1-1/2" piece out at top right, some staining, edge wear, and tears, all together just about VG. Instruction of this kind was the cornerstone of English naval dominance in both commerce and war, securing the foundation of the British Empire.
