George I, Shilling, 5.99g., 1723 SSC, South Sea Company issue, first laureate and draped bust facing right, georgivs.d.g.m.br.fr.et.hib.rex.f.d., toothed border both sides, rev. inverted die axis, crowned cruciform shields, now incorporating the Arms of Hanover, seven strings to Irish harp, garter star at centre, initials in angles, date either side of crown, extra stop at br of legend .b.rvn et.l.dvx s.r.i.a.th et.el., edge, diagonally milled (ESC 1176; S.3647), last C of SSC initials very weakly struck and also at rear of shoulder on obverse, some light flecking, otherwise a pleasing extremely fine, rare with the error stop on reverse Estimate £150-200 provenance
