William III, Sixpence, 2.92g., 1696, first laureate and draped bust facing right, gvlielmvs. iii.dei.gra.,toothed border both sides, rev. inverted die axis, shields rotated one half turn so French shield at date, large crowns over cruciform shields, four strings to early Irish harp, therefore inverted Lion of Nassau at centre, date either side of crown above French shield, .mag. br.fra. et.hib. rex., edge, diagonally milled (ESC 1534C R7; S.3520), attractively toned, good fine and the only specimen we have seen in commerce, of the highest rarity Estimate £800-1,000
