1a. essay die proof showing the entire background to the King's portrait without background lines, in black on surfaced card (92x60mm.) marked "From Electrotype, after removal of tinted background", and accompanied by a 1a. carmine mint block of sixteen (4x4), one showing the stamp printed in this form. A unique pair. Photo Estimate £ 800-1,000 Note: According to a 1924 letter from the India Store Dept., this design was produced by De La Rue in order to "improve the shade of the nose and moustache". Only two sheets of the stamps were apparently printed, one of which remains intact in the National Postal Museum
