Italy, Venice, Alvise Mocenigo (1570-77), Osella, 1576, Anno VII, the Doge kneeling before St.Mark, lion of Venice behind the Doge, rev.view of the Church of the Redeemer (CNI.249; Jes.81; Pa.58), solder spot at top, otherwise extremely fine Estimate £ 300-400 An interesting architectural type. The church was designed by Palladio and erected by the Senate as a votive offering for preservation from the virulent plague of 1576-7. The mount spot is a reminder of the way it was worn as a protection from the plague.
