Lot: 71

POSTAL HISTORY England, Scotland and Wales 1870 (20 May) envelope from Bath to Instow, then re-addressed back to Bath, bearing 1864 1d. plate 123, tied by one complete and one part strike of the black "too late" of Bath, the reverse with Bath, Instow and Exeter ('thimble' type); fine, most unusual and possibly the only known example. This envelope should have been affixed with another 1d. stamp to pay the redirection fee, and certainly it does appear that another adhesive was originally there, however part of the "too-late" handstamp appears in this space, suggesting that the adhesive became detached whilst in transit or more recently.
