POSTAL HISTORY England, Scotland and Wales 1647/48 entire letter from Robert Heath at Maidstone dated 23 March 1647, addressed to a relative "...... the much honored kynsman Edward Heath esqr. these, sent with speed, leave this at Mr Turners a barber over agt. Seriants Inn in ffleete streat, London", the address panel also showing "por 4 d" (the "4" overwriting "2"), the content relating to a request for Edward Heath to pay a sum of money, on behalf of the sender, to the Excise Office, on the reverse (interior) of the letter John Jackson from the Excise Office has written a receipt dated 30 March 1648 (the New Year 1648 started on Lady Day, 25 March); fine and clean cover. An extremely rare Civil War period postal charge, especially in such excellent condition. Photo
