Maugham, W. Somerset English novelist and playwright (1874-1965); much of his work, such as his classic Of Human Bondage, is drawn from his experiences as an ambulance driver in World War I and an intelligence agent in both World Wars. Two TLS "W.S. Maugham," each 1/3 page, 8vo, on stationery imprinted "Villa Mauresque / St. Jean - Cap Ferrat," [France], February 14, 1954 and July 26, 1962. Both are to a Mrs. Harnaker or Hamaker [Maugham tries it each way] of Dauphin, Pennsylvania, thinking her for writing him, the first letter in reference to his 80th birthday. Mounting tape and small tear on top verso of 1954 letter, otherwise VG, 1962 letter Fine. With envelope for earlier letter. Estimate US$ 200-300
