Issue for F.A.O. This coin is remarkable for two reasons. It is the only Nepalese coin since the Licchavi period on which the title mahārājadhirāj ("great king over kings") is used and it is the first Nepalese coin with an inscription in English. In Nepal the title mahārājadhirāj is known from a scarce type of the Licchavi series, attributed to Amshuvarman, featuring a variant of this title on reverse together with a central sun symbol (RGV 17-20). In the second part of the 19th century this title was also used by Rana Prime Ministers.
