Edward III (1327-1377), Third Period, Noble, authorised 30 July 1346 - May 1351, Tower (London), CD | WAR' : D' : GR'A : REX : AnGL : S : FRAnC : DnS:hyB [sic], small lettering with C for E in ED, double saltire stops, King standing in ship, brandishing long sword and Royal shield set with semé of five-and-a-half fleurs in first quarter, ropes 3/2, quatrefoils 4/4, bow-sprit behind foc'sul, ornaments 11-11-11, leopards facing left, rev. :+: Ih'C : TRANSIEns : PER : MEDIVM : ILLORVM : IBAT, chevron-barred As, lombardic Ns and Ms, large lettering, double saltire stops, large E re-entered at centre of re-designed floriate cross with "nutcracker" terminals and closed bi-lobed escutcheons, [Spink XRF: .999 Fine], 34.8 x 35.0mm., 8.263g [127.52grns], 6h, i.m. broken cross formée (BM 2019 T450, no. 3 = PAS OXON-1AAA88, no. 620 this coin; Potter 1b, no. 6 = Samuel King [2005], 1 same dies; Stewartby 1/2; Edmund, dies Ab-4/ca-5; North 1110; Spink 1481), buckled and crimped with minor excavation scuffs by IBAT and to peripheries, could easily be straightened with persuasion, otherwise attractively lustrous across mint fresh surfaces with traces of lime-mortar concretions in quatrefoils as characteristic of this unique trove, struck details better than extremely fine, very rare thus
