-H in deep blue, diagonally bisected on 1848 (12 Nov.) envelope from Castle Douglas to Edinburgh, uncancelled and with manuscript "half a two penny stamp/imperfect stamp" and with manuscript "2" in ink for payment due (twice the deficiency); the reverse with boxed Castle Douglas datestamp in blue and Edinburgh arrival (13.11). A rare and very desirable cover which was either a genuine attempt to pay 1d. postage or an attempted fraudulent use of a used stamp. B.P.A. Certificate (2006). Photo
