(x) Wartime Transitional Period (1914–1920)
French Military Missions
1916 (Feb. 8). Postcard to Paris, exhibiting a neat "escadrille d'albanie/le capitaine commandant" double-circle cachet in blue, denoting free-of-charge military carriage. Dated one day after the escadrille arrived in Corfu and began at that time its reconnaissance flights over Albania. A very scarce usage, and probably the finest known from this naval aviation unit.

provenance: Markus Gmähle
note: The Escadrille d’Albanie was a French naval aviation group with Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea as its mission area. It conducted maritime reconnaissance, anti-submarine patrols, convoy protection, and surveillance, supporting Allied operations in the Balkans. Equipped with Maurice Farman MF XI bis aircraft, the unit arrived at the Potamos airfield in Corfu on 7.2.1916. Shortly after, patrols and reconnaissance missions were subsequently organized along the Albanian coast. The unit later participated in the Monastir offensive.
