(x) Montenegrin Occupation of Shkodër (1913)
1913 (March 31, Julian calendar). Serbia 5pa. stationery postcard (Michel P-66) from Krusevac to Shëngjin, cancelled by c.d.s. on dispatch, returned to the sender after application of Cyrillic-Latin "sc. Jovan meduanski/st. jean de medova" c.d.s., lightly struck in centre on 5th March (Julian Calendar, or 18th in the Gregorian calendar). Despite the light strike of the postmark, a very important piece, being the earliest recorded of this office, from which no more than three items are recorded, the rarest of the Montenegrin occupation. Cert. Dimitrijevic.

note: Shëngjin (San Giovanni di Medua or Sveti Jovan Meduanski) was occupied by Montenegrin forces on 17.11.1912, before the advent of the Provisional Government of Vlorë, until 14.5.1913. A postal office was opened in an unknown date. Extremely few mail is known and therefore it was assumed that this office was not working before 18.3.1913 (Julian calendar), as evidenced by one existing registered cover. Nevertheless, this lot demonstrates that the post office was working at least from 5.3.1913, about two months before the occupation ended.
