Mail Originating in Ottoman Albania
1898. Official registered mail sent free of charge from Janina (then in the Vilayet of Janina in Ottoman Albania, now in Greece) to Istanbul via Valona/Vlorë (9 May 1898), carried by courier, showing an extremely rare and neat strike of the all Arabic negative seal of Janina at top right, and the very rare bilingual "Vallona" c.d.s. at lower right. The sender was Yany Padisahi Emlak Mültesariye Müdürlügü 1303, Janina, Office of the Sultan, 1887. A very scarce mail as carried overland from Janina to Istambul; in addition, the combination of both postmarks may be unique.
