A Post War A.F.C. to Squadron Leader J. R. Ramsden, Royal Air Force

Air Force Cross, G.VI.R., dated 1949, additionally engraved on the reverse 'Sqdn Ldr J. R. Ramsden'; 1939-45 Star; France and Germany Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, these all privately engraved 'F/Lt J. R. Ramsden 24 Sqdn', mounted as worn, light residue to the campaign medals, otherwise very fine (5)

John Richard Ramsden was born on 20 March 1921 and was commissioned into the Royal Air Force on 22 November 1943. His service with No 24 Squadron would have seen him operate Avro York transport aircraft - he possibly could have come across Sir Winston Churchill who flew in them for his state work. Ramsden was promoted to Wing Commander on 1 January 1960 and retired on 30 March 1968. He died in Wayland, Norfolk in 1985.
