M.C. London Gazette 4 October 1919:

'Throughout the operations, 18th to 26th September, 1918, near Holnon, he was conspicuous for his gallantry and devotion to duty.

On the 18th September, for an hour, during a heavy enemy artillery barrage, he attended to the wounded and assisted them to a place of safety. On the 19th September he established an Advanced Aid Post and attended to the severe and urgent cases throughout the day under heavy shell fire.'

Edward Harold Hertslet Granger was born on 30 October 1890 in Gloucestershire, being baptised in Westbury, probably by his father, The Rev. E. H. Granger. A medical student in Bristol by 1911, he rowed for Clare College, Cambridge in 1912 and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant into the Royal Army Medical Corps in November 1914. Serving in France from April 1915, he was advanced Lieutenant in November 1915. He served with distinction as Medical Officer to the 1st Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment, taking his hard-won decoration for the actions near Honlon in September 1918.

Released as a Captain in May 1919, his Medals were issued to him at Woodville Gardens, Ealing. By 1939, Granger was practising in Leatherhead and living at The Grange. He died on 13 January 1964 with issue of two daughters from his wife Penelope, who hailed from Adelaide, South Australia.
