Michael O'Leary Fishburn was born in Yorkshire on 7 January 1915 and enlisted into the West Yorkshire Regiment under the alias 'Alfred' in June 1940, being posted to the 59th Battalion, Reconnaissance Corps in July 1941 and the 4th Recce Regiment in November 1942. Advanced Captain in January 1953, he was noted as having joined the Colonial Service in Kenya in March 1953 whilst also remaining on the Reserve.
