Auction: 25888 - The Jeffrey Wong Collection of World Banknotes - Part I
Lot: 119

(x) Government of India, 50 Rupees, Bombay, ND (1930), serial number V/8 358301,
Printed in rich maroon, brown, and green hues, the obverse features the profile portrait of King George V wearing the Imperial Crown of India at right, with a matching watermark to the left. Serial numbers are positioned at upper right and lower left. The reverse displays language panels surrounding the denomination at centre.

This note was issued for the Bombay branch. As the foremost commercial and financial centre of British India, Bombay played a central role in trade, banking, and the movement of capital across the empire. It is the first of three branch-designated 50 Rupees notes of this type offered in this sale; the Bombay, Calcutta, and Madras issues are presented consecutively in the following lots.

High-denomination notes such as the 50 Rupees were primarily used for larger governmental and commercial transactions and are increasingly scarce today. This issue remains one of the most iconic representations of British India's numismatic legacy.
