Auction: 25200 - World, British and Irish Banknotes - e-Auction
Lot: 445
(x) British Linen Company, progressive proof £100, Edinburgh, 1st May 1865, this date is unrecorded in PMS as a proof. However, there are two versions of this £100; one version with two florettes either side of the Royal Arms and one version without. Although these florettes are not seen for the £100 until the 1866 plate, the proof offered for sale here indicates the stage when this design element was first planned, showing pencil markings and annotations. This note has been sold through Spink's auctions in the past, and before that, the note was in the archives of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland
(PMS BL 43 for type), solid extremely fine, dirt, previously mounted, mounting remnants
