Richard II (1377-1399), Noble, Type IIIa, 'No Fleurs in Spandrels', Tower (London), RIC | ARD : DI : GRA : REX : AnGL : Z : FRAnC : DnS : hIB : Z : AQT, fishtail lettering and double saltire stops, trefoil over sail, King standing in ship facing, holding a sword and shield, ornaments -1-1-, ropes 3/1, quatrefoils 4/4, rev. + IhC : AVTEM : TRACIENS : PER MEDIV ' : ILLORVM : IBAT, double saltire stops, ornate cross with lys terminals, lion and crown in each angle, R at centre, all within tressure of eight arcs, no fleurs in spandrels, 6.92g [106.79grns], 2h (Schneider I, -; North -, cf. 1303; S. - , cf. 1656), on a shorter flan, otherwise well-struck and handsomely lustrous, strictly very fine, and presumably extremely rare being unparalleled in the legendary Schneider collection
