Russian Medals (2) | including, Russia [Tsarist], Foundation of Kronshtadt, Tin Medal, 1704, PALLAS QVAM CONDIDIT ARCEM IPSA COLIT Virg, façade of the fortifications at Kronshtadt; in four lines in exergue, CRON SCHLOS / MEDIA HIEME A RVSS IMPE / RATORE EXTRVCT / MDCCIIII., rev. HIBERNO TEMPORE NIDIS INCVBAT ALCYONE / TVM VIA TVTA MARIS / Ovid Metam., Athena standing left, head turned toward the background, observing two ships under sail left on the calm sea and pointing at a nesting halcyon; instruments of navigation to lower left, plain edge, 45 mm, 39.38g, (Cf. CNG 87, lot 2190 (for a similar medal in bronze), some light scratches in the fields but residual flashy brilliance remains, lightly toned, very fine; also Russia, Fortification of Staraya Ladoga, AE Medal, after 1783, by I. B. Gass and P. Boborovschiko, helmeted bust right wearing cuirass and mantle and holding shield and hammer, rev. Rurik standing to right in front of city walls, edge plain, 79mm, 188.40g (Glatter Rand; Smirnov 67), a couple of edge knocks, scratches behind bust, some contact marks, otherwise lightly toned, great eye appeal, good very fine (2)
