Auction: 25121 - Spink Numismatic e-Circular 40: British and World Coins, Medals and Artefacts - e-Auction
Lot: 1608

George I (1714-1727), Guinea, 1716, fourth laureate bust right, rev. crowned shields cruciform, eight strings to harp, seven hearts to Hanoverian shield, edge obliquely milled, 8.03g, 6h (Ellerby 217-225; MCE 248; Farey 605; EGC - [omitted in error]; S.3631), edges rubbed smooth and a dent to reverse field in first quarter, with historic scratches to hair, otherwise lightly toned, strictly fine

Unfortunately the latest publication of EGC conflates the third (EGC 505) and fourth busts of the 1716 Guinea by presenting the third bust as muled with the Arms of Hanover at date error, thus far only met with on the fourth bust (EGC 506). The cataloguer proposes EGC 505A to dissipate confusion between these two important bust varieties.
