This piece represents the sole Half-Guinea of James II found within the Ellerby Hoard.
Bull has noted the curious lettering on the obverse and considers the OBV to be over BVS. It not clear if this is the case here. The E of DEI is also curious and so by the same token could possibly be over another letter. On the other hand, it may just a case of poorly made punches.
