Percy Matcham Davies was born in Madras, India on 13 June 1873, the son of Arthur and Frances Davies. His grandfather was Commander Arthur Davies, Royal Navy, who served during the Napoleonic war, being twice wounded and 'mentioned' for his suppression of piracy in Jamaica. The younger Davies attended Elizabeth College, Guernsey before joining the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.
Commissioned Lieutenant with the Royal West Kent Regiment on 10 September 1894 he joined the Army Service Corps prior to 1907, he was serving with the unit in Egypt on that date, still in the rank of Lieutenant. Advanced Major at some stage prior to the Great War, not long after on the outbreak of hostilities he was appointed Assistant Quartermaster-General.
Davies was clearly extremely proficient in the role being advanced Lieutenant-Colonel on 15 December 1914. He was further promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General on 15 January 1917 while employed as Deputy Adjutant and Quartermaster General. Leaving the role in November 1917 he was advanced substantive Colonel on 30 October 1918.
Appointed Deputy Director of Supplies and Transport on 21 May 1919 he retired as Honorary Brigadier-General on 3 September 1927. Settling in Devon Davies died at Budleigh Salterton, Devon on 28 March 1966.
