Sydney Vivian Ackroyd Jackson was born on 2 May 1908 and was educated at Lancing College. He was commissioned Pilot Officer on 10 January 1941 and commenced Flying Training at No.41 Air School, East London, South Africa on 1 July 1942 as an Observer and qualified as an Air Observer on 31 October 1942. He returned to the U.K. and was sent to No.21 O.T.U. at Moreton-in-Marsh in January 1943 this time to train as a Bomb Aimer and qualified as an Air Bomber on 27 February 1943 flying in Wellingtons. Jackson then joined No.142 Squadron based at Blida, Algeria and had his first Op with a raid on Tunis on 5 April 1943 and bombed a railway junction. On 9 April his target was Enfidaville and two days later the target was St.Marie du Zit where they attacked a Landing Ground. On 14 April the target was Decimomannu Aerodrome on Sardinia. His next Op was Bizerta Docks, Tunisia, which was raided on 16 April and this was repeated on the 23 April. On 25 April they returned to Decimomannu Aerodrome for a second time but due to ground haze was unable to pinpoint the target. The 29 April saw him on Ops to El Aouina the Aerodrome of Tunis. On 6 May 1943 they attacked Trapani on Sicily and two days later attacked Villacidro Aerodrome (Sardinia), this was Jackson's last recorded flight. he was posted to the Administration and Special Duties Branch on 27 January 1944 and was promoted to Flight Lieutenant on 1 July 1945. However Jackson undertook a medical board at R.A.F. Hospital Wroughton on 10 September 1945 and was found unfit for further service. He died at the Officers Annexe, Kind Edward VII Sanatorium, Midhurst, Surrey on 21 September 1946 and is remembered at the Golders Green Crematorium.

Letter dated 6 April 1946 confirming he was found unfit for further service, at this time he was at the R.A.F. Hospital, St.Athan, Barry.

Letter dated 15 April 1946 relating to entitlement to campaign stars where it was requested he sent his log book to R.A.F. Innsworth.

Letter dated 17 April 1946 relating to kit deficiencies, he sent a cheque for the apparent loss of Flying Gauntlets.
