Cecil Earl Jones was born at Hamilton, Ontario on 20 July 1895 and attested at Toronto on 12 November 1914 with the 19th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. Entering the war in France on 14 September 1915 he was advanced Corporal on 23 August 1916 and Acting Sergeant on 21 January 1917.
He suffered a gunshot wound to the back on 10 April 1917 when the 19th Battalion was engaged at Vimy Ridge. Returning to duty after a spell in Hospital Jones was finally discharged on 5 February 1919.
Awarded his Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal in 1931, a letter from the National Archives of Canada confirms that the recipient reached the rank of Captain; sold together with copied research and a letter from the National Archives of Canada.
