James Pollard was born at St Albans, Hertfordshire in October 1871 and was a merchant seaman living at Liverpool upon joining the Royal Naval Reserve in July 1896. Besides his Great War Trio, he was also issued with a Silver War Badge (No. 29042) in August 1918 for his troubles; sold together with War Badge certificate and Pension/Gratuity Certificate.
