James Pike entered the war in France on 3 September 1914, likely as part of a draft of reinforcements. He was with them throughout the next few months before being taken prisoner of war on 30 December 1914 as part of the Winter Operations on the Western Front; sold together with copied research.
Thomas Beilby joined the 15th (1st Leeds Pals) Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment in France on 15 August 1917. He was injured in an accident whilst serving at Arras in January 1918 when a trench fell on him. Beilby did not recover well, and was invalided to Britain, being discharged on 10 February 1919; sold together with a copied research and silver war badge.
