Edward Pike was born at Bulwell, Nottingham and was a collier prior to him joining the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment. He attested on 3 November 1903. He entered the War in France on 8 September 1914 serving with the 2nd Battalion and is entitled to a 1914 Star Trio.
