Six: Sapper J. Sturrock, Royal Engineers and 8th London Regiment who was wounded in action on 26 August 1914 and taken Prisoner of War

James Sturrock served during the Second Boer War with No.1 Division Telegraph Battalion, Royal Engineers. The medal roll confirms the award of the clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal and South Africa 1901 clasps, but not the clasps for Wittebergen and South Africa 1902. He was awarded his T.F.E.M. in Army Order 282, 1 October 1911. Sturrock re-enlisted for the Great War on 5 August 1914 and entered the war in France on 15 August 1914 serving with No.4 Signal Troop Royal Engineers. He was wounded on 26 August 1914 and captured by the Germans. He was repatriated to Switzerland and then sent by 31 Ambulance Train from Lyons (sic) to Le Havre. He was discharged as a result of wounds on 17 November 1917 and was entitled to Silver War Badge (274473). His Medal Index Card notes that his 1914 Star was returned to Chatham for amendment as it had been named Sturrocks.
