(x) The War Medal 1939-45 attributed to Leading Aircraftman D.M. Blake, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve

War Medal 1939-45, light contact marks, very fine

Derrick Martin Blake was born on 2 January 1926 and later served full time Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve under number 3000462 from 4 January 1944 until 1 September 1947. During this time he was a fitter and served overseas in Hong Kong and Shanghai from 6 July 1945 until his release.

His squadron leader noted in his release report: 'Blake has a very good service record, knows his job and has done good work on this station, often under difficult conditions. He has had some technical training and experience in general engineering before entering the service and is very keen to go in for the draughtsmanship and design side of the industry. I think he would do well in this line, and he should be given every chance to take a suitable government training course.'

Sold together with original vaccination certificates of Blake's cholera, smallpox and yellow fever vaccines, original photograph of some members of 'A' Flight Squad 4, and Blake's original RAF service and release booklet.
