The 1914-15 Star awarded to Major E. B. Norton, Royal Fusiliers, who served as Commandant of the Australian & New Zealand Convalescent Depot at Hilwan

1914-15 Star (Capt: E. B. Norton.), good very fine

N. B. Norton was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant into the 3rd (Militia) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers on 28 October 1915. Promoted Captain on Captain on 28 July 1897, he was appointed Instructor of Musketry on 15 April 1899 holding the post for several years. Norton resigned his Commission on 15 May 1907 but returned to it for service in the Great War.

Entering the war in Egypt in May 1915 Norton is noted as serving as a Staff Officer, whilst there he was appointed Commandant of the Australian & New Zealand Convalescent Depot at Hilwan- also spelled Helouan. Two hotels in the town were requisitioned to act as Convalescent hospitals, those being the Al Hayat Hotel and the Grand Hotel. Norton saw out the entire war in Egypt but relinquished Commission on 17 November 1916 with the rank of Major; sold together with copied research.
