(x) The 1914 Star to Second Lieutenant W. F. Parriss, Middlesex Regiment, late Honourable Artillery Corps, who was killed in action on 15 March 1915

1914 Star (1336 Pte W. F. Parriss. H.A.C.), very fine

Walter Frederick Parriss was the youngest son of Selina Parriss of 4 Palmeira Square, Hove, Brighton and the late John William Parriss. He was born on 17 November 1892 and was educated at Harrow School where he got his fez for football and played in Cock House Match of 1909. On the outbreak of the Great War, he joined the Honourable Artillery Company and first served overseas in France on 18 September 1914. After serving for several months Parriss was given a temporary commission in February 1915 on the General List and was attached to the 3rd Battalion Middlesex Regiment. He was killed in action on the 15 March 1915 having been shot dead whilst gallantly holding an advanced trench.

His Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Stephenson (since killed) wrote of him: "He was so willing and so ready to do anything, so brave and keen, that we shall miss him very much. Although he had been so short a time with us, he was very popular - a gallant boy with all the courage of his race."

He is buried in the Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery. His 1914 Star and clasp Trio was applied for by his mother Mrs L. Parris, 4 Palmeira Square, Hove, Sussex.
