(x) Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 1 clasp, Belfast (4850. Pte: C. F. Mitchelson. 18/Hrs:), very fine
Charles Frederick Mitchelson was born in 1881 in Marylebone, Middlesex and worked as a labourer before he enlisted into the 18th Hussars (Queen Mary's Own) on 12 May 1899. He had previously served with the 4th Battalion, Rifle Brigade. Mitchelson served at Home for a year before being posted to South Africa in May 1900 - March 1902. He then returned Home, where he completed the remainder of his military career, including when he transferred to the Army Reserve on 12 May 1904.
Upon the outbreak of the Great War on 11 September 1914, Mitchelson enlisted into the 11th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment. He spent the majority of 1914-16 at Home before he was sent to the Western Front on 14 December 1916.
He died on 6 January 1947, aged 67, from a bleed on the brain, and had been working as a house decorator (retired). He was further entitled to the King's South Africa Medal with both clasps and a British War and Victory Medal Pair.
